I am a fourth-year student studying Integrated Science in Behavioural Neuroscience & Physiology with a minor in Commerce. I have been on co-op for almost 16 months now and it has been an incredible experience for me. With the end goal in sight, I have learned so many things during my time as the Marketing Project Manager at Exicon. Since I arrived in Hong Kong, I have been blessed with the opportunity to meet so many professionals, both young and old, from all over the world. It is no wonder that Hong Kong is known as “Asia’s World City.”
With 8-months of work experience in Hong Kong now, I definitely feel more confident in my capabilities as a young professional. Comparing it to my Co-op placement in Vancouver, I realize that different markets have different priorities. Expectations are strict and procedures vary. I have learned how to “manage up” rather than “manage down”. These are transferable skills that you do not necessarily learn in class and I am positive that my international experience will benefit me in the long run back home. With this in mind, I have decided to pursue a career in what I find both interesting and applicable – marketing.
There is nothing that I would trade my international experience for. Since my arrival in Hong Kong in January, my life has been fast-paced and anything but boring. I love how easy it is to make new connections here. I have met many fascinating individuals from around the globe and each one of them is visiting Asia to seek an adventure.
